    Swap memory size

    Hi

    I am a newbie to NGS and just build myself a machine for 454 sequencing analysis. I'm in the process of installing ubuntu as a dualboot with windows 7, and have a question in the process about swap memory. The physical memory is 24gb RAM and I have seen that normally you double the swap memory. Is it necesseary to give a 50gb partition to the swap memory, or is that just waste of space?

      Just give 5g to swap. if your program need more than 5G memory from swap, it is a time to upgrade your machine since the accessing data in swap is very very slow. Accessing > 5G data in swap is not good idea.
