    NGS data transfer

    Hi,

Does anyone have any experience in transferring next ge sequence data from one place to another? For example, submitting data to another center for analysis?

I'm just wondering how this is possible or best carried out.

    Thanks in advance

Image data or sequence data? If sequence data, network transferring is ok.

Lot of folks use those external hard disks and fed-ex it.
This is probably the best, easiest, most brain dead way to do it.

Some people (NCBI for example) want you to use "Aspera Connect" which appears to be a proprietary "fast ftp" server/client application. Source folks have to setup an Aspera server ($) and downloader must install (free) firefox plugin or command line tool.

Someday we'll laugh at the hoops we had to go through to share this data, but today it's a hassle.

Assuming you are just sending reads & quality data, compressed FASTQ files still just about manage to get over the network (FTP) in our experience. This may not be true in a few months time when the HiSeq hits! Our University internet connection doesn't look to be upgraded past the current 2Gbps (total, for everyone) anytime soon.

shipped eSATA drives - fastest and most economical for us based on some back of the napkin calculations a few months ago.
