Identifying the contiguous reads covered by atleast one read

Hi Everyone ,
Can anyone explain me in detail how to get the contiguous reads covered by at least one read( what tool gives this ) from a given bam file .

Can anyone explain me how to get following parameters from a bam file
identify the contiguous regions covered by at least one read.
How many regions does this represent ?
What is their average length
total length
