Which Redhat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) do you recommend for NGS data analysis?

    Hello everyone,

I am in the lucky position that I got a new machine for NGS data analysis that should be attached to a SAN holding the data. The storage vendor supports RHEL.

Does anyone of you have experience with different kinds of RHEL (Desktop, Workstation, Server)? I want to make sure that I can (most certainly) run the various different software for NGS analysis. I do not necessarily need a GUI. Do you know of problems with one or the other kind of these RHELs?

I'm currently favoring the server version as this version probably offers the best support for SANs.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions! Thank you so much!

As you said, server would be best for the overall support. Most data analysis programs do not use a GUI. Although they often present graphics these are usually in the form of web pages that can be viewed on a variety of machines.

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
      by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating

New Genomics Technologies Take Aim at Long-Standing Limits
      by SEQadmin2

Researchers using sequencing and genomics tools often have to make trade-offs. They can choose between speed or scale, short reads or long-range information, or targeted panels or a view of the whole transcriptome. New technologies that have been released this year are built to address those tough choices.

We asked six companies the same four questions to learn about their latest products. The new technologies bring a lot to the table, including rethinking sequencing
