Hi everyone,
It's been ages since I posted on an online forum, but this seems to be a nice and welcoming place to do so! I'm a new student in the MIT/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution PhD program (http://mit.whoi.edu) studying microbial ecology with Dr. Stefan Sievert at WHOI (http://www.whoi.edu/page.do?pid=18956).
I'm going to be using molecular analyses in several different contexts - pure culture RNA expression analysis, metagenomics, and maybe even analysing single cell genomes! I'm also gradually learning bioinformatics software, and programming in python. Currently reading "Practical Computing for Biologists" which is, so far, the single most useful book helping me get familiar with how to use the computer as a powerful tool - highly recommended! (http://practicalcomputing.org/)
I'm hoping to trade ideas with people working on similar topics and to help out where I can with my experience. Looking forward to some good discussions!
