Hi Everyone,
My name is Jon Irish, I'm a Wayne State University graduate student currently working in the Ethier lab at Medical University of South Carolina.
My research focus is on the 8p11-p12 amplicon present in some breast cancers, our lab works to identify new oncogenes in this amplicon, and to investigate the mechanism of transformation of amplicon genes that are over expressed and induce a transformed phenotype.
Our lab is new to next-gen sequencing, we have an Illumina Hi-Scan capable of reading bead-arrays and sequencing, and an Ion-Torrent. My experiments so far have been ChIP-seq with Illumina 100bp paired-end reads.
I am currently experimenting with different open-source applications to process my data, so far almost everything I know about sequencing has been acquired by lurking on this site. It's time for me to say hello and try to contribute.
I run quality control and alignments on a cluster running Linux, which has been great.
I currently use my mac laptop for peak calling, which has also worked fine so far.
I look forward to getting to know everyone.
-Jon
