    Personal Genome Machine (introduction)

    Hi, my name is Thomas,
    I had the opportunity to buy a used Ion Torrent PGM for myself. It was broken, but I repaired the electronics and it seems to operate properly now. However now I need to get the chemistry working. I also have a old ABI310 that still needs some rework, but I'll try to use it as a diagnostic tool to get the libraries right. Since I can't afford a service technician from Lifetech and I don't have anything to compare with I hope that I can get some helpful hints & tips in this forum. Thanks in advance!

    Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.

    The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
