  • Hello from the NSF I-Corps Program (NYU/Columbia)

    Hello Everyone,

I am a research scientist participating in an NSF-sponsored program called NYCRIN I-Corps, hosted jointly by Columbia University and New York University. My team and I are investigating the unique challenges facing next-gen sequencing labs. I've had the opportunity to speak to people at all levels of the sequencing ecosystem (technicians to executive directors) and have gained some valuable insights so far.

I stumbled across this forum in the midst of my research and feel incredibly lucky that it is both active and well-organized. I've checked out posts on topics similar to mine, but couldn't find anything both big-picture and recent. Instead of just dropping a list of questions on the group, does anyone have a suggestion for a preferred sub-forum to initiate this type of conversation in your community? I'd be happy with any opportunity to talk with you all, be it forum-based, email, skype/phone, etc. Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning from you!

    -Kevin

I'd never heard of the NYCRIN I-Corps before, it sounds like a really interesting program. Regarding a preferred sub-forum, perhaps just "General". Realistically speaking, those of us who frequent the site just follow the site-wide list of new posts (at least I do), so it probably won't matter much.

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
      by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
      by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
