    New to genome assembly

    Hi,

    My name is Jason Somers and I am currently a PhD student in the Genetics department of The University of Melbourne. I am situated at the Bio21 institute in the Batterham Lab. Our lab has just funded the solexa (re)-sequencing of two Drosophila EMS generated mutant strains and the background strain the mutants were created in.

    I have little background in bioinformatics and the support I have is not always around to answer my questions. So please forgive any basic questions I have while I try to understand the assembly and analysis process.

    Hi,

    You are absolutely not alone Jason, i have just boarded to newbie club of sequence assembly .

    I am a student too, MS from Turkey. I am snitching around, seeking for some cookbooks, recipes or clear instructions on this topic, so far i can not name myself as "succeeded". So far i did some primer design from 454 data, it is exciting, that might be only thing i can say right now.
    I guess i'll see you around..
