Bioinformatician (Next Gen Sequencing Hub), EASIH, University of Cambridge, UK

    Bioinformatician
Eastern Sequence and Informatics Hub (EASIH)
University of Cambridge, Department of Medical Genetics
    Salary: £27,183 - £35,469pa

The Eastern Sequencing and Informatics Hub (EASIH - http://www.easih.org/) is a new Clinical School Research Facility hosted by the University Department of Medical Genetics. The EASIH will be involved in world class sequencing and bioinformatic research partnerships with clients both within Cambridge University and across the UK, working on matters of national and international importance in the life sciences and routine medical diagnostics. As one of four national facilities which are being funded by partnerships between the MRC and host institutions, the EASIH's aim is to provide a comprehensive and expert Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) service and is well equipped with all current major NGS platforms in tandem with microarray, capillary sequencing and TaqMan systems for validation experiments. The EASIH has access to High Performance Computing facilities.

The EASIH is now looking to recruit a Bioinformatician to provide direct client liaison on projects undertaken by the EASIH. By the nature of the EASIH you will be involved in analysing data resulting from a wide range of experimental strategies and in varied fields of biological and medical research. We envisage duties to include the development and application of innovative computational approaches for the analysis of large sequence datasets from NGS technologies and expertise to support the EASIH and its clients. Working in a multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will be required to train and assist customers with data access, analysis, presentation, interpretation and statistical issues.
The successful applicant will be educated to MSc level or possess substantial equivalent experience. Familiarity with NGS or microarray data analysis techniques is preferred. Ideally you will have experience of software development in an object oriented language (eg C++ or Java) and knowledge of a scripting language (eg Perl, PHP, Python). You should possess a detailed knowledge of programming techniques and RDBMS and have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills together with a proven ability to work as member of a team. Experience of working in a customer orientated situation would be helpful.

Further particulars can be obtained from, and applications (with CV and cover sheet PD18 - parts I and III only) should be sent to, Selina Day, Eastern Sequence and Informatics Hub Administrator, Institute of Metabolic Science, Box 289, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge CB2 0QQ, email: [email protected] , Tel: 01223 769089

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
