Interesting/great opportunity with another group here at Oxford.
We are looking for a Senior Researcher to lead reproducible genomic discovery analyses using novel wearable-derived phenotypes in the context of cardiovascular disease. You will be an integral member of the wearable sensor analysis group, led by Aiden Doherty. There will be exciting opportunities to closely collaborate with the genomic discovery group led by Cecilia Lindgren. This role will offer the opportunity to lead research at the intersection of wearables and genomics as our team has access to world-leading population health data sets. For example, we play a key role in the UK Biobank activity monitoring project, where ~100,000 participants have accelerometer, genomic, hospitalisation, and mortality data collected. We have recently completed the collection of similar datasets in China. You will be supported in getting to grips with these data repositories and collaborate with other members of our team. You will be based within the Oxford Population Health Department at the Big Data Institute. The post holder will also directly collaborate with the British Heart Foundation Centre for Research Excellence and the Radcliffe Department of Medicine.
Responsibilities:
Develop research questions and lead a range of genomic discovery analyses using wearable-dervived phenotypes in the context of cardiovascular disease. For example to understand the genetic regulation of patient-relevant phenotypes that can be extracted from wearable datasets such as physical activity, sleep, heart rate and rhythms, etc; to identify candidate causal genes that underlie the genetic regulation of these and related phenotypes; to use Mendelian Randomization to assess causality; to translate findings into drug targets
Regularly write original research articles for peer-reviewed journals, and present research at national and international conferences Raise research funds through grant applications and manage own area of a larger research budget
Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the group or alone
Agree clear task objectives, organise, and delegate work to other members of the team and coach other members of the group on specialist methodologies or procedures
Responsible for shaping the research group’s plans and the writing of group-funding applications for new research projects
To contribute, as required to the wider academic activities of the Nuffield Department of Population Health (including teaching, student mentoring or supervision, and assessment, participate in and support public engagement activities) and
Grade 8: £44,414 - £52,841 per annum
