  • Postdoctoral in Cancer Genomics - Humanitas University, Milan, Italy

The research groups of Precision Medicine and Oncognomics led by Prof. Salvatore Piscuoglio ([email protected]) and Prof. Charlotte Ng ([email protected]) will be based at the Humanitas University, Milan, Italy, from January 2024 are seeking two highly motivated postdoctoral fellows in Bioinformatics/ Computational Biology (100%) to join our team of molecular and cell biologists, lab technicians, pathologists, and clinical fellows. The laboratories aim to answer questions related to the contribution of important genetic alterations and their interactions to cancer development. We integrate multi-omics approaches, including single-cell and spatial omics, and in silico prediction (e.g. artificial intelligence) to identify and to characterize prognostic and/ or predictive biomarkers to address outstanding questions in precision oncology.

    Your position

The candidates will further our understanding of cancer biology using multi-omics profiling and computational biology approaches. The candidates will have the opportunity to develop, optimize and apply cutting-edge bioinformatics methods to analyse and integrate diverse, state-of-the-art sequencing applications to define cancer-driving alterations and interactions. The candidates will have the flexibility to develop and lead their own projects within the areas of interest of the laboratories. The candidate will also assist in the supervision of Ph.D. students.

    Your profile
    • Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related discipline
    • proven experience with next-generation sequencing analysis
    • strong computational and statistical skills (e.g. unix, python, R)
    • strong interest in cancer biology
    • experience with cancer genomics is a strong plus
    • ability to work independently, to be a team player, and to collaborate with researchers from various backgrounds
    • good organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects in parallel
    • experience with manuscript writing
    • experience with grant writing is a plus
    • fluency in English is a must

    Offer

These positions offer exciting opportunities for highly motivated individuals to contribute to advancing personalized medicine in cancer. We offer a stimulating and international research environment with a strong and dynamic network of international collaborators. We offer access to state-of-the-art computing and experimental infrastructure. Humanitas University offers dedicated training programs to broaden your expertise and enhance your skill set.

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
