The CNAG has a park of twelve second generation DNA sequencers supported by an extensive informatics infrastructure, and is one of the major Genome Sequencing Centers in Europe. Its primary mission is to carry out large-scale DNA sequence analysis projects in human and other species in collaboration with researchers in Catalonia, Spain and internationally.
We aim to generate and interpret genome data that will help understand the way a human or other genome functions. Thus, two main axes of activity are the production of large amounts of DNA sequence, using Next Generation Sequencing technologies (NGS), and its efficient informatics handling.
We seek a Postdoctoral researcher for development of novel protocols for sequencing and new sequencing methods on the EU-funded project ESGI (European Sequencing and Genotyping Infrastructure). A particular focus will be on single-cell analysis and on the analysis of DNA and RNA extracted from challenged samples such as FFPE sections. The successful candidate will report to the team leader of the Technology Development and Implementation Team and to the Head of Sequencing.
Responsibilities
- Development and implementation of new sample preparation procedures for DNA and RNA sequencing.
- Implementation of new sequencing methods.
- Data analysis.
- Writing internal reports and scientific papers.
Requirements
- Recent PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or similar.
- Able to work very reliably and autonomously, to pay attention to detail, effective troubleshooting skills and also to work as part of a team.
- Excellent laboratory skills.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics at a user level (R, NGS data analysis programs, etc). Familiarity with programming languages will be considered as a plus.
- Able to understand and speak English.
- Experience with the current generation of DNA sequencing technology.
Application procedure
Interested candidates may submit a CV and a brief statement of experience and interests before 20th January 2013 indicating the offer reference - Postdoc_development - in the message subject to the email address: [email protected].
Applications must be submitted in English Informal enquiries about the position can be sent to: [email protected]
