  • Genomics Research or Sr. Research Tech needed

The NYU Genome Technology Core (GTC) is a state-of-the-art, fee-for-service laboratory operated by the Office of collaborative science at NYU Langone Medical Center. The GTC staff members develop and provide their knowledge and expertise to the research community at NYULMC in a broad variety of genomics research and applications. They work closely with investigators to define optimal experimental design, develop and maintain standards for all service procedures and troubleshooting, and provide guidance and service in data management and analysis.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of GTC or Senior scientists at GTC, the Research Technician or Senior Research Technician will be responsible for performing a variety of complex laboratory tasks and standardized procedures to provide high quality genomics resource support for the research community.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Assists with installation, implementation and operation of highly specialized equipment and instrumentation in the GTC shared resource laboratory, including lab automation and next generation sequencing instruments, such as the HiSeq and miSeq (Illumina)
    2. Responsible for the analysis (quality and quantity) of nucleic acids for downstream applications of next-generation sequencing, including Agilent Bioanalyzer and picogreen quantitation.
    3. Responsible for sample handling, Illumina library preparation, QC analysis and analytical processing to generate high quality data for further analysis and interpretation.

    REQUIRMENTS
BA or BS in genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, computational biology or related fields. For Senior Research Technician’, at least 2- 3 years of experience in genomics research laboratory or a Master’s degree are required. Must have excellent organization and multi-tasking skills. Outstanding communication and customer based skills. The successful candidate will be continuously building both the knowledge and experience in specific areas such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, lab automation and genomics-oriented bioinformatics etc.
