Bioinformatician - Edinburgh Genomics, The Roslin Institute, Edinburgh, UK

Edinburgh Genomics is a major facility serving the UK research community. The facility's portfolio of techniques is growing dynamically and as part of our operations, we deliver high-impact informatic analyses of the data we produce. We are seeking a skilled bioinformatician to join our growing bioinformatics team (Vacancy Ref. 031029). The post-holder will have core responsibilities in building and maintaining the underpinning workflows that assure timely and accurate processing of raw data as it is produced.

The post includes roles in LIMS development, Linux systems administration, pipeline workflow programming, development and implementation of quality assurance metrics and bespoke data analyses. The post-holder must have graduate qualifications in informatics, bioinformatics or computing applied to biological questions, at least to MSc level, and a high level of skill and several years’ recent experience in programming (particularly Python or Perl), Linux systems administration experience and understanding of workbench and pipelining systems. Excellent project management, communication, team working, science writing, and presentation skills are essential.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
