Postdoc in Regulatory Genomics, Imperial College London

This post is intended to develop an exciting research project in the area of pancreatic islet regulatory genomics and biomarker discovery.

The host team is led by Jorge Ferrer, and is staffed by computational biologists, molecular biologists and geneticists. Some of the lab’s interests include (a) understanding non-coding genome function (Weedon et al, Nature Genetics 2014, Pasquali et al, Nature Genetics 2014), (b) long non-coding RNA function (Moran et al, Cell Metab 2012), and (c) developmental programming of pancreatic lineages (van Arensbergen et al, Genome Res 2010 and Genes and Dev, 2013; Solar et al, Dev Cell 2009). For a full list of references follow the links below.

The lab is located in Imperial Centre for Translational and Experimental Medicine, a new research building in Imperial College London’s major biomedical campus in Hammersmith, and works in coordination with team members based in Barcelona’s Institut d’Investigacions Biomediques August Pi i Sunyer.

For more information on the lab’s interests and publications see: http://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/j.ferrer, http://www.betacellregulation.net/.

Candidates must have a publication record. Diverse educational backgrounds are welcome, but a solid computing background is essential. Solid knowledge of a programming language (e.g Python, C/C++, Perl, R, MatLab) is required. Prior experience with genome-scale data and strong expertise in statistical analysis are highly advantageous.

    Salary is £33,410 - £42,380 per annum

Our preferred method of application is online via our website at http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/employment (please select “Job Search” then enter the job title or vacancy reference number into “Keywords”). Please complete and upload an application form as directed quoting reference number HM2014178. 16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
