    Bioinformatics Analyst @ CHLA

    Hi all,

We're looking for a Bioinformatics Analyst here at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). The Bioinformatics Analyst will analyze and manage high throughput data generated by the Mi Next Generation Science (MiNGS) core facility. He/she will collaborate with scientists in a variety of subject areas including metagenomics, cancer biology, and infectious diseases. The individual will also participate in the group's independent research programs. Primary responsibilities include analysis of single-cell and bulk transcriptome, metagenomics, and DNA re-sequencing data. The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the MiNGS team to develop and implement novel computational analyses and pipelines.

    Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field + 3 years of relevant experience OR MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field + 1 year of relevant experience
    • Experience with analysis of NGS data (single-cell a plus)
    • Solid understanding of standard genomics practices and analytical approaches
    • Demonstrated ability to solve biologically relevant problems requiring novel applications of exploratory data analysis
    • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and quickly adapt to new tasks
    • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with computational and experimental scientists

    Skills:
    • Strong programming/scripting skills (Perl, Python, awk, sh, etc.)
    • Excellent proficiency in statistical software (R, Matlab)
    • Working knowledge of genomics software and databases
    • Working knowledge of statistical methods and applications

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
