    Head of Genomics Core Facility

    The Institute of Molecular Biology gGmbH (IMB) is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences, funded by the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation, and located at Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz, Germany. We are looking for an enthusiastic person, who combines technical and research expertise with strong communication skills, to lead the Genomics Core Facility. The Genomics Core Facility provides services in next-generation sequencing (NGS) for both DNA and RNA sequence analysis, including e.g. RNA-Seq (stranded or non-stranded), small RNA-Seq, whole-genome sequencing, bisulfite sequencing, ChIP-Seq, RIP-Seq, and amplicon sequencing. Genomics Core Facility staff carry out all experimental and quality control processing required for NGS using the Illumina platform.

    You will

    - Maintain the efficient operation of the Genomics Core Facility and supervise a team of technicians
    - Organize in-house and external NGS service
    - Provide consultation on NGS projects to researchers on choice of appropriate methods or technologies to address specific scientific questions
    - Support and train in-house and external scientists
    - Undertake technology development and implement new methods

    Required qualifications

    - University degree/PhD in Life Sciences or relevant field
    - Extensive practical experience in NGS technology
    - Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
    - Basic bioinformatics background in NGS data analysis

    Desirable qualifications

    - Several years´ experience as postdoc, in core facility or industry
    - Experience with Illumina Platforms and common NGS protocols
    - Track record of successful interdisciplinary collaborations
    - Strong organisational, cooperation and communication skills
    - Good proficiency in English
    - Experience in user support or core facility work
