Computational genomics postdoc, Jorge Ferrer Lab, Imperial College London

    Deadline May 31

We offer a postdoc position for a motivated scientist interested in studying genome regulation in pancreatic islets, using computational analysis of NGS data. This is the general area of interest of the lab as we believe it canlead to new insights into mechanisms of disease. We are a group of computational and experimental biologists, often engaging in cross-disciplinary interactions.

Applicants with diverse educational backgrounds are welcome, but a solid computing background is essential. Knowledge of a programming language (e.g Python, C/C++, Perl, R, MatLab) is required as well as expertise in statistical analysis, with a strong background in the the analysis of biological networks.

    Salary Range: £33,860 - £42,830 per annum
    Full-time, fixed-term for three years

For more info on the lab:
Our research is at the interface of several disciplines, including regulatory genomics, human genetics, islet biology and diabetes pathogenesis. To address our scientific questions, we carry out genomic modifications in cell-based systems and model organisms, and probe regulatory functions with genome-wide functional and computational approaches.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
