    Bioinformatician/Bioinformatics Data Analyst, Vienna, Austria

The St. Anna Kinderspital and the Children´s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI) located in Vienna, Austria, are known for providing the highest quality of childhood cancer patient care and development of new treatment strategies, respectively. For our Bioinformatics Core Facility we are looking for a Bioinformatician/Bioinformatics Data Analyst who will conduct analyses of genomics data from childhood cancers in close collaboration with molecular biologists, geneticists, pediatric oncologists and other bioinformaticians. Current projects include genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic analyses of pediatric leukemia and solid tumors on primary tumors and liquid biopsies (disseminated tumor cells and cell-free circulating tumor DNA), and the analysis of experimental model systems.

As part of the bioinformatics core facility you will:
    • Support CCRI scientists conducting genomics projects in all stages from the experimental planning to data interpretation, visualization and writing papers

    • Use state of the art methods and develop pipelines for the analysis of NGS data including whole-genome sequencing (WGS), whole-exome sequencing (WES), gene panels, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq,etc.

    • Integrate data from different sources (including literature data) to flexibly meet the demands of individual projects

    • Participate in collaborations, train users in the application of bioinformatics tools

    Your Qualifications:
    • Degree or extensive track record in bioinformatics, computational biology or data analysis

    • Experience with NGS data analysis, including WGS, WES, ChIP-seq and RNA-seq

    • Solid programming and/or scripting skills, proficiency with Linux/Unix

    • R/Bioconductor, Statistics

    • Experience with workflow frameworks and cluster computing is a plus

    • Ability to work independently, self-motivated and creatively

    • Excellent communicational skills

    The institution:

The CCRI is situated in the center of Vienna, one of Europe’s most important places for medical research and life sciences and cited as the most livable city in the world. It hosts nearly 100 investigators working in the fields of pediatric leukemia, solid tumors, immunology and stem cell transplantation. Tightlyassociated with St. Anna Children´s hospital, the biggest center for pediatric hematology and oncology in Austria and one of the leading treatment centers for children with cancer in Europe, the CCRI performs basic, translational and clinical research. Genomics and epigenomics of pediatric cancers are areas of strategic development on its way to precision medicine. Successful applicants will be offered a competitive salary, and an initial three-year contract with the perspective of extension. Applications including a motivation letter, synopsis of the research program, curriculum vitae, and three references shall be addressed to Caroline Schmid, e-mail: personal(at)ccri.at.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
        by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
        by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
