Computational Biologist for Single Cell Genomics

Computational Biologist for Single Cell Genomics Trotman Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory

The Trotman Lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) is looking for a Computational Science Analyst to support our research team.

We perform single cell genome analysis of cancer evolution in patient and mouse samples. This work is paralleled by gene expression analysis from microarray and next generation data of experimental samples from prostate cancer patients, mouse models of the disease and primary cell culture lines derived from these samples. Genome-wide copy number analysis is derived from Next-Gen sequencing and hierarchical clustering algorithms are used for establishing phylogeny using established pipelines and in collaboration with teams from the CSHL computational biology department. In addition, analysts also identify genomic variants in sequencing data and improve software and visualization that is used to define clonal evolution of cells and alterations associated with disease progression to metastasis or therapy resistance The analyst will work closely with the scientists so that data production and analysis are fully aligned.

    Requirements:

This position requires a Masters or Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, or related field as well as programming abilities in Perl, Python, Java, or C. Familiarity with UNIX-based operating systems, and familiarity with bioinformatics databases and software is also required. The position also requires experience with statistical analysis of biological datasets.

If interested, please apply for this position via the CSHL website at – https://cshl.peopleadmin.com/postings/10997

    Position Number 01640-R

Postdocs in Functional Genomics using Single-cell CRISPR and Computational Approaches

    Karolinska Institutet
Last application date: 18.May.2017 11:59 PM CET

Ming Wai Lau Centre for Reparative Medicine (MWLC) is established to further accelerate research in stem cell biology, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, and regenerative medicine. MWLC operates two nodes, one based at KI in Stockholm, Sweden and the other in Hong Kong, located in Science Park, Shatin. The Hong Kong node will include four research groups, initially consisting of a total of 20-30 scientists.

Postdoctoral Researcher in Functional Genomics using Single-cell CRISPR and Computational Approaches

Description of research group and project

We have long interests in developing simple and simpler NGS technologies and associated informatics algorithms for Precision Medicine. Some of these innovations and informatics pipelines have been applied in clinics; discovered novel therapeutic targets while serving as robust assays for genetic profiling across various types of clinical samples to guide treatments. We have also developed methods for characterizing and improving CRISPR genome editing off-target, an important issue to address towards its clinical applications.

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with proven strong records to join our team to work on functional genomics projects. We are interested in studying the relation between phenotypes and genotypes at both a global level and defined pathways, using novel NGS, CRISPR and informatics approaches on large scale single-cell studies. The positions will be based in the inspiring environment in Hong Kong Science Park. Specific responsibility and requirement are:

One postdoc position in Molecular Biology

Responsibility: To design single-cell NGS/CRISPR assays and carry out the experiments for studying phenotypes and genotypes relations.

    Requirements:
Completion of a PhD or an equivalent degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or relevant fields.
A proven record in renowned publications.
Experience in NGS and/or CRISPR is preferred.
Applicant should be highly motivated and a good team player.
Excellent command of written and spoken English is required.

One postdoc position in Computational Biology

Responsibility: To lead the development of computational algorithms for analyzing NGS data from single-cell and CRISPR experiments.

    Requirements:

Completion of a PhD or an equivalent degree in Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or relevant fields.
A proven record in renowned publications.
Strong programming skills in Python or C/C++, and R.
Applicant should be highly motivated and a good team player.
Excellent command of written and spoken English is required.

    The employments

These are a two-year fixed-term position, with the possibility of renewal.

The assignments are located at MWLC, Hong Kong, and the employment will follow local labour laws in Hong Kong.

A competitive remuneration package with MPF and pension contributing up to a total of 10% over basic salary and medical benefits will be offered.

    Entry requirement

A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

    Application process

An employment application must contain the following documents in English:

    1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work

    2. A complete list of publications

    3. A summary of current work (no more than one page)

    4. Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances

    5. Applicants should arrange to have at least two letters of reference

The application is to be submitted through the MyNetwork recruitment system. Please indicate which one of the positions, Molecular Biology or Computational Biology, you are applying for.

Karolinska Institutet is one of the world´s leading medical universities. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of human health through research and education. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden and offers the country´s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Since 1901 the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has selected the Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.

Pursuant to the regulations of the Swedish National Archives, applications are kept on file for two years after the appointment has gained legal force. The regulations do not apply to attachments that have been printed or otherwise published.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
      by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
      by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
