  • Postdoc - cancer genomics and bioinformatics - Basel, Switzerland

Description: We are seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist to join our team of bioinformaticians, molecular biologists and pathologists at the Institute of Pathology, University Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland under the supervision of Dr Charlotte K Y Ng and Dr Salvatore Piscuoglio. Dr Ng and Dr Piscuoglio use multi-omics approaches to identify and characterize biomarkers, and to understand the important genetic alterations and their interaction that contribute to the development of cancer.

The laboratory has extensive collaborations with top national and international investigators in molecular pathology and cancer ‘omics. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop, apply and optimize cutting-edge bioinformatics methods, in particular those for massively parallel sequencing, to further our understanding of cancer biology. The candidate will have flexibility to develop their own projects within the scope of the areas of interest within the laboratory. The candidate will also assist in the supervision of PhD students.

    This position is available immediately.

Qualifications: PhD in genetics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology or related discipline is required. Hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing and genomics, strong computational and/or statistical skills and ability to work independently are required.

Experience with cancer genomics and an understanding of cancer biology would be highly desirable. The ideal candidate would have strong oral and written communications skills in English.

    Application information:
Cover letters, CV and/or informal enquiries should be sent to Dr Charlotte K Y Ng ([email protected]) and/or Dr Salvatore Piscuoglio ([email protected]).

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
    by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
    by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
