Description: A bioinformatics postdoc position is available at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. Our research group is interested in examining gene expression (from RNA-seq data) at multiple time-points to understand expression changes that occur over time and how they may influence clinical symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. We are also interested in examining a potential role for long non-coding (lnc) RNAs as epigenetic regulators of expression over time, and their influence on clinical phenotypes. The successful candidate is expected to take a lead role in the bioinformatics analysis of RNA-seq data (coding and lnc RNAs) from multiple data points to evaluate changes in expression, and to perform statistical analyses to assess associations with clinical phenotypes. Co-expression analyses will also be involved. For further info on the project, see www.RApregnancy.org.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics or similar field, and must be proficient in statistical and scripting programming languages. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in analyses of RNA-seq data, other omics data, and co-expression analyses.

To Apply: Email cover letter, CV and contact info for 3 references to Damini Jawaheer, Ph.D. ([email protected])

Understanding Genetic Influence on Infectious Disease
    by seqadmin

During the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists observed that while some individuals experienced severe illness when infected with SARS-CoV-2, others were barely affected. These disparities left researchers and clinicians wondering what causes the wide variations in response to viral infections and what role genetics plays.

Jean-Laurent Casanova, M.D., Ph.D., Professor at Rockefeller University, is a leading expert in this crossover between genetics and infectious...

Addressing Off-Target Effects in CRISPR Technologies
    by seqadmin

The first FDA-approved CRISPR-based therapy marked the transition of therapeutic gene editing from a dream to reality1. CRISPR technologies have streamlined gene editing, and CRISPR screens have become an important approach for identifying genes involved in disease processes2. This technique introduces targeted mutations across numerous genes, enabling large-scale identification of gene functions, interactions, and pathways3. Identifying the full range...
