Postdoc or starff scientist of bioinformatics and genomimcs @UMN

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate specializing in Bioinformatics to join the Computational Cancer Genomics lab of Dr. Rendong Yang. The goal of this position will be to lead multiple research projects, develop novel computational algorithm(s), perform data analysis, collaborate with biologists and physicians, and present/publish the results in scientific conferences/journals. The main focus is to explore the functional consequences of somatic alterations in cancer patients, to identify driver alterations, and to understand the genetic mechanisms of cancer progression and drug resistance by integrating multi-dimensional data from large-scale cancer studies such as The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

About the group: The Yang lab is located at The Hormel Institute, a biomedical research center of the University of Minnesota, was established in 1942 and has an excellent reputation and long history for producing world-class medical research. Lab website: https://ylab-hi.github.io/

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology/Computer Science/Statistics/Physics/Biology or a related field is required. Experience in Linux. Proficiency in at least one programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Perl, Java, C/C++, Matlab). Experiences with high-throughput sequencing data (WGS, WES, RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq) analysis. The candidate must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

How to Apply: Send a cover letter, CV and list of references to Dr. Rendong Yang ([email protected])

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
