The “Fundación Progreso y Salud” is an organization which belongs to the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Health (Spain). It is the central entity which supports and manages the research activity within the Public Health System in Andalusia, promoting health research and innovation in the region. The “Fundación Progreso y Salud” offers for the Medical Genome Project (MGP) the following position:
Bioinformatician Researcher (Reference number: 0531)
The Medical Genome Project (MGP) has the objective to directly characterize a large number of genetically-based diseases by complete genome sequencing. This project is a change of paradigm in the way the study of genetic diseases has been traditionally approached. Under the direction of Prof. Shom Shanker Bhattacharya, (Director of CABIMER and the Cell Therapy and Regenerative Medicine Department of this centre), Dr. Guillermo Antiñolo (Director of the Andalusian Genetics Plan and the Genetics, Reproduction and Foetal Medicine Clinical Management Unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospitals) and Dr. Joaquín Dopazo (Associated Scientific Director for Bioinformatics of the Andalusian Genetics Plan and Head of the Bioinformatics and Genomics Unit of the Príncipe Felipe Research Centre in Valencia) this project will use Next Generation Sequencing platforms. By sequencing the genomes of affected individuals it is the objective of the project to identify pathogenic alterations in the DNA of these patients through a precise and rigorous comparison with control DNA.
Main Duties:
The chosen candidate will be the responsible of the bioinformatic pipeline of data analysis at the MGP in close coordination with Dr. Dopazo's Bioinformatics team. The project will produce a large amount of human genome sequences that need to be quick and efficiently processed to find mutations causative of the diseases studied.
Essential requirements:
The following aspects will be favourably regarded:
