Genomics positions at Emory University, Atlanta

I have a couple of positions available in my new Genomics Core at Emory University in Atlanta (below). Anyone wishing to apply will have to go to the Emory HR website, (http://www.emory.jobs/careers/index.html) , create a profile and then find the job ID #.

    Tim

    Bioinformatics Analyst (10244BR)

The Emory GRA Genomics Core is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to assist with day-to-day running of the new center. Activities will involve; maintaining a media-wiki based LIMS system, tracing and maintaining customer data files and analysis of varied ‘nextgen’ datasets. In additions to basic requirements for the position (Computer Science or Bioinformatics degree plus bioinformatics experience), demonstrated experience with Next Generation sequencing data, Mediawiki and python/perl are advantageous. Also, experience with interacting with customer in a service context would be viewed favorably.

    Research Technical Specialist (ID 10245BR)

The Emory GRA Genomics Core is seeking an experienced molecular biologist to run Next Generation sequencing instrumentation. The candidate is expected to have a BS/MS in Biology or similar discipline and at least two years laboratory experience in advanced molecular biology techniques. Experience in use of the Illumina GA2 and/or Roche/454 GS FLX instrumentation and familiarity with the UNIX operating system would regarded highly favorably. Day-to-day tasks will include; running the sequencing instruments, careful recordkeeping, bioinformatics data analysis, customer interaction and development of new laboratory protocols.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
