  • Bioinformatics Scientist in a happy Viking city -Molecular diagnostics & epidemiology

Location: Aarhus, Denmark, CLC bio HQ

Have you ever wanted to build the world's best software platform for bioinformatics? To live in a Scandinavian city founded by Vikings? To work in a company that is young, vibrant and different?

At CLC bio, we offer all of these, and more. Over just a few years, CLC bio has become a globally operating and world leading bioinformatics solutions provider. In the process, we have redefined the field of commercial bioinformatics with our unique ambition to build a fully integrated bioinfomatics platform that spans all the way from programming environments to advanced graphical user interfaces, and from desktop applications to high-performance computing tools. This platform is now used by researchers throughout the world in the fight against cancer, in the design of new crops to feed the world and in the creation of new medicines.

But it is not just our software that is different, it is also how we build it. Within our Research & Development department we provide a unique, creative environment for software development and research based on Scandinavian values and a lifestyle that attracts uniquely creative and ambitious researchers. Our culture is imbued with a "relaxed ambitiousness" based on our strong belief that the creativity of the individual is set free by sharing responsibility, initiative and decisions. This means that we offer an involving and non-bureaucratic environment that allows you to focus on your passion for bioinformatics, research and great software.

    What we offer

We continuously strive to create a workplace ambience that drives and supports curiosity, learning and knowledge sharing among employees. In line with the Danish way of life, we also offer very flexible, family friendly working arrangements, allowing you to lead a balanced life while reaching your professional goals and ambitions.

Our employees are passionate, high-achieving, innovative and love celebrating their achievements with cake, champagne and parties.

    What we are looking for

Presently, we are looking for a world class expert in molecular diagnostics and epidemiology of infectious diseases, who has the vision to design the next-generation of bioinformatics tools for identifying and tracing the spread of infectious agents based on high-throughput sequence data. Building on the extensive platform that we presently provide, your main tasks will be to design automated and state-of-the-art workflows for advanced diagnostics of viruses and bacteria and to build a suite of epidemiological tools to be used in local and global epidemiology studies. Furthermore, you will represent CLC bio in an exciting commercial/academic research consortia that will build a disruptive platform for diagnostics and epidemiology of infectious diseases based on high-throughput sequencing data.

General requirements for the position are:
    • A PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular epidemiology, or a related field
    • Ability to work independently and with full ownership of research and development projects
    • Experience with algorithm design and programming (Java knowledge is a bonus but not a requirement)
