Data Analyst at Invitrogen Life technologies, Carlsbad

We have an immediate need for a contract data analyst to work with our scientists in Carlsbad California over the next four to six months. The candidate will assist scientists in analyzing data primarily on the SOLiD platform, as well as participate in helping to develop new algorithms and softwares to assist our end users in using our NextGen sequencing kits.

We are looking for a candiate that has the following sets of skills:
    • Experience with algorithm development in a combination of C/C++, BioPerl, BioJava and R
    • Experience with open source softwares for genome browsing and for pipelined analysis of next gen data
    • Experience with documenting and communicating their algorithms to software developers or other technical users of their software
    • Ability to communicate and work with bench scientists to help them to analyze their next gen sequencing data
    • Experience with cluster based analysis of data
    • Some demonstration of GUI development would be ideal

Candidates will be expected to present papers, patents or other form of documentation that demonstrates their bioinformatic abilities. Ideally the candidate should have worked with one or more Next Gen sequencing platforms. The candidate would be ideally based in our Carlsbad office, although Foster City is also a possible location. We would consider telecommuting for a really ideal candidate.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
