This Web Collection presents the results of the RNA Sequencing Quality Control (SEQC) project that sought to evaluate the reproducibility and comparability of high-throughput sequencing of RNA (RNA-seq). Data from several different laboratories are compared and the performance of different sequencing platforms and data analysis approaches are assessed, together with benchmarking against DNA microarrays. Ultimately, these multi-platform, cross-site studies will enable RNA-seq to be applied more broadly in analyzing large cohorts for discovery research and clinical use. This is the latest phase of a collaboration between government, academic and industry researchers as part of the MicroArray Quality Control (MAQC) consortium.

Data sets from this study are going to be used in CAMDA 2015 challenges (www.camda.info):
For 2015, the FDA SEQC consortium offers two challenges:
(i) the response of over 100 rat livers to 27 drugs representing 9 different chemical modes of action, as characterized by matched RNA-Seq and microarray expression profiles, and
(ii) a multi-site cross-platform RNA-Seq benchmark covering 3 next-generation sequencing, 5 microarray, and 2 qPCR platforms.Pawel Labaj

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...-

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?
Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating...-
