  • Does SOLiD cost > 1 million USD !?

    Hello,

I just got a quotation from a local ABI distributor for SOLiD system with total of 1,177,857 USD !!

I couldn't believe my eyes! I know it should cost something around 500K-700K USD. I want to know how much does it cost in USA or Europe because I think this local agent - not ABI- is playing around with the prices to unacceptable figures and I don't know how shall I act towards this quotation. Do you think ABI would do something and stop him or they wouldn't even care?

    The quote includes the following:

    - SOLiD System (Qty 1)
    - Instrument buffer kit (Qty 10)
    - Fragment Library Sequence Kit (Qty 4)
    - Sequencing Probes (Qty 4)
    - ePCR Kit (Qty 4)
    - Bead Enrichment kit (Qty 4)
    - Bead Desposition Kit (Qty 4)
    - Slide Kit (Qty 2)
    - Buffer Kit (Qty 2)
    - DH10B Fragment Library Control Kit (Qty 2)
    - DH10B Fragment Library Cti bead slide (Qty 2)
    - Library Titration Reagent (Qty 2)
    - Library Oligos (Qty 2)
    - UPS System for SOLiD Analyzer (Qty 2)
    - Installation
    - Overseas Training for 2 users for 2 weeks in California

    What do you think ?

Almost certainly less than that in the US.

Remember there are also accessory instruments that you will definitely need (Covaris, hydroshear), and those don't look like they are included.

Thanks alot ECO for your prompt reply.

The thing is ABI will not sell directly. The only way at the moment is to buy through this distributor who Swore by the his mother's soul (!) that he just get 10-15% for his company as a net profit.

I don't know how to work around this. Should we post his quotation to ABI (headquarter at USA) so they will change the distributor or at least sell directly to us?

I told the ABI's distributor that I got a quote on Illumina GAII and it costs almost 40% of his price on SOLid but he kept telling me that SOLiD worth it (oh, silly me )

Here in DC I've been quoted from ABI at $535,000. This includes everything you specified and the accessories, ie Covaris and Hydroshear.

The last quote is about right (depending on volume, other things that might reduce it). I've sent a copy of this thread to friends at ABI to get their take on it.

The field of immunogenetics explores how genetic variations influence immune responses and susceptibility to disease. In a recent SEQanswers webinar, Oscar Rodriguez, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Louisville, and Ruben Martínez Barricarte, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University, shared recent advancements in immunogenetics. This article discusses their research on genetic variation in antibody loci, antibody production processes,...

                  Choosing Between NGS and qPCR
                  by seqadmin

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) are essential techniques for investigating the genome, transcriptome, and epigenome. In many cases, choosing the appropriate technique is straightforward, but in others, it can be more challenging to determine the most effective option. A simple distinction is that smaller, more focused projects are typically better suited for qPCR, while larger, more complex datasets benefit from NGS. However,...
