  • Subscribe to SEQanswers RSS Feeds

I've gotten a couple questions on how RSS feeds (for use in Google Reader, or the like) are implemented on this board and I hope that I can clear it up in this post.

There are many different types of feeds available depending on your interests and/or how much of the forum you want to subscribe to.

    The whole enchilada

If you want to subscribe to every new POST, made by any user in any forum, use the following feed URL:

If you want to subscribe to just every new THREAD, made by any user, use the following as the feed URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/seqanswers-all

    The front page

To subscribe only to the front page news, which is typically selected as the most broadly relevant content, use the following feed URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/seqanswers

    Specific Forums

It is possible to get an RSS feed for a specific forum or set of forums. Until I implement a better system, it will take just a moment to compile each URL.

Every forum has a "forumid" which is found when you view the forum as part of the URL. For example the "General" Forum appears at the URL http://seqanswers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16 the forumid is 16. Pretty simple, eh?

To generate a feed for the General forum only, simply append that forumid to the following URL as so:

    http://seqanswers.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=16

Using this method it is possible to generate RSS feeds for any specific forum you want.

If you wanted to generate a single feed which combines multiple forums, simply add that forum's id as well. For example, http://seqanswers.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=16,20 would feed both the General forum AND the Jobs forum simultaneously.

Hopefully that helps clear things up.

Is it possible to configure the RSS feed to display more than just the first sentence? Specifically:

We do this routinely on our metagenomics datasets - we're using the CLCbio de novo assembler although we're sequencing with a 454 rather than a...

      Hi Senthil,

Definitely, sorry about that. Default was 200 characters, I just upped it to 1000. If that's not enough I can shut off the summary feature altogether.

          I'm getting short messages:

Hi, you might have a look at the attached picture and at an overview of
          sequencing at this website;...

          Is it still 1000?

Sorry I just caught this. Which feed is giving you that?

Fixed on that and all other feeds that come via Feedburner/Google. Apologies. Full content is pushed to the RSS feed for each item.

                  Hi,

is it possible to create a filter to the rss feeds with certain words.

Like if I want to have only the new THREADS which are about PacBio or about DESeq or anything else.
                  Is that possible?

                  Thanks

                    Choosing Between NGS and qPCR
                    by seqadmin

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) are essential techniques for investigating the genome, transcriptome, and epigenome. In many cases, choosing the appropriate technique is straightforward, but in others, it can be more challenging to determine the most effective option. A simple distinction is that smaller, more focused projects are typically better suited for qPCR, while larger, more complex datasets benefit from NGS. However,...

                    Non-Coding RNA Research and Technologies
                    by seqadmin

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) do not code for proteins but play important roles in numerous cellular processes including gene silencing, developmental pathways, and more. There are numerous types including microRNA (miRNA), long ncRNA (lncRNA), circular RNA (circRNA), and more. In this article, we discuss innovative ncRNA research and explore recent technological advancements that improve the study of ncRNAs.
