Is my desktop computer enough for towtie2 alignment?

    Hi every one,
I am trying to align 50 million reads per sample to honeybee reference genome of 240 MB.
I have a desktop computer with a 4-core CPU and 32 GB memorey.
Can I use it to do the alignment?
If I can do it using this computer, how long time will it take to align one sample to the reference genome?
    Thanks a lot!

Yes you can and I haven't a clue how long it will take, sort of depends on the settings you use. Try one sample and see.

The biggest problem you'll have on a desktop computer is with index generation, but with 32GB memory that shouldn't give you any issues even with the human genome.

Both index generation and aligning 50M reads to 240Mbp should take no more than 20-30 minutes, certainly no longer than a couple of hours.
