  • what is the mean of "deviation" in fastqc?

    Hi:
    I have a question from http://www.bioinformatics.bbsrc.ac.u...20Content.html
I don't know what is the mean of "deviation" on GC distribution over all sequences.
Can u give me definition of deviation ?
    Thanks.

Wikipedia has a convenient definition of deviation. You can also read the article on standard deviation, for which there are translations in many languages.

The sum of the "deviations" from the normal distribution represents more than 15% of the reads.

I think here's "deviations" maybe is not the same mean of "standard deviations".
I guess here's "deviations" is the difference of C count per read and Theoretical Distribution, so i want to check what is the mean of "deviation" in here.
      thanks

This module tests how closely the observed GC distribution curve resembles a modeled normal distribution with the same overall GC content as found in the sample. If they deviate, i.e. are different, more than 15%, FastQC will throw a warning.

Recent Advances in Sequencing Analysis Tools
          by seqadmin

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
          by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
