I am trying to install MACS peak caller from deb but it is saying that I dont have python 2.6 install even though I have. What could be wrong?

I'm trying to install MACS version 1.4.2 and I have python version 2.7.4 installed in Ubuntu. The MACS website says Python version must be 2.6 or 2.7 and it fails to install for me saying "macs depends on python2.6". How can I install it and will it work with 2.7.4 or do I have to downgrade to 2.6 (or 2.7?).

Might not be picking up your version of python.
      Code:
      python -V
should indicate what version of python you have,
      Code:
      which python
will indicate which binary of python is being used (in case you have multiple versions in play). Is your pythonpath env variable set correctly? Are you pointing to the correct python libraries?

The other option is going from source. Even if you don't use the compiled binary, it'll probably spit out an error message if your install fails, and that will also be useful in troubleshooting.

It looks like MACS bundles with a setup.py, so a python setup.py install --user should install MACS locally.

Thank you I think it's working now, I used "python setup.pl install --user". When I type "./macs14 -h" or "./macs14 --version" it prints out the help or version number correctly.

Saw that as well. I had originally posted instructions to pull the newest code from git and install it locally to --user, but you seem to have gotten that sorted out.

From Collection to Sequencing: Why Sample Preparation and Preservation Define Sequencing Data
              by SEQadmin2

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.

The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.

Environmental Genomics in the Age of NGS: From Microbes to Conservation Strategies
              by SEQadmin2

Studying ecosystems means dealing with complex, multi-species communities that are hard to observe at scale. This complexity, however, hides many important questions to be answered, from how biogeochemical cycles work and how climate change can affect species distribution to how conservation strategies can work best.

Genomics, particularly since the expansion of NGS, has transformed ecosystem ecology. By sequencing environmental DNA, we can now assess biodiversity without direct...
