  • Is there any information about the EGA data??

    hello!!
    I'm now dealing with the " UK10K_NEURO_EDINBURGH" data from European Genome-phenome Archive(EGA)
    https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ega/studies/EGAS00001000117

I downloaded"EGAD00001000233"and"EGAD00001000317" and the downloaded files are as follows:
    for exapmle,

    file " 7402_4#1.bam " in folder "EGAR00001044664"
    file " 7438_2#7.bam " in folder "EGAR00001045421"
    and
    file " UK10K_EDIN5194723.REL-2012-11-27.vcf.gz.gpg " in folder "EGAZ00001008061"
    file " UK10K_EDIN5194748.REL-2012-11-27.vcf.gz.gpg " in folder "EGAZ00001008075"

    I am confused about:

    1) What the filename mean?
    For example:
file "7402_4#1.bam" in the folder "EGAR00001044664"
what the number "1044664"."7402_4 and #1" mean?

    2) Are there connections between"EGARxxxxxx" and "EGAZxxxxxxx"? and what is the connection?

Are there some naming rules for EGA data?

Any information is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance

Since the datasets are not open access you should contact the ega help desk ([email protected]) with these questions (unless there is someone on this forum who has information about the EGA project).

There is also an additional contact email listed on the page that you have provided a link to above.

      Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
      by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

      Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
      by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
