    bioinformatics LIMS

    Hello,
I am looking for a ind of LIMS that would not care of sample traceability but of the analysis traceability.
I would like to know if you are aware of soft (preferably free but I take all the answers) that would be able to keep all the information of which soft has been used, which version of this soft, where is the data ...

    thanks a lot

    re: analysis tracking

We presented our internal system at CSHL a few months ago, but sadly do not have it packaged to work outside of the center yet.

It will hopefully be available for download in the next few months though. I will be sure to post as soon as it is...

I don't know how many instruments you have and what are you resources but I'd suggest you write your own LIMS. You'll have to invest some resources initially but it will pay off down the road since you'll full control of your tool.

Pipeline Pilot is the commercial tool that is near the space you are speaking of.

This does seem to be something that is continually reinvented because (a) nobody likes the prior or (b) everyone wants complete control

The majority is written in object-oriented Perl.

Love this - good data definitely starts from good input, and poor input can only give relatively poor data. I particularly like the mention of Nanodrop/absorbance based methods for quantification. It's such a toss up if you'll get an accurate reading or what amounts to a randomly generated number, and a lot of library/sequencing related issues can be traced back to poor quant.

I’m not a sequencing expert. I’m a purification scientist who uses NGS to evaluate workflows my group develops. With this perspective, we think about the sample first and the NGS workflow second. The sequencer is an exceptionally honest reporter, but it can only report on what you give it, so whether you get clean, interpretable data from an NGS workflow is largely determined before you begin.

Here are nine questions we think about, in roughly the order they matter, before...
