    Annotating heatmaps

Does anyone have a good tool to annotate a heatmap based on functional group annotations rather than gene name. I am looking to cope with the case where you have too many genes to display the gene name but want to give a summary of what the various blocks coordinated expression contain.

    Thanks

Just assign each functional group of interest a color and then use that with the RowSideColors option of heatmap(). If you're using heatmap.2 in the gplots package then it's the same option.

Assuming you're using R of course.
