  • Bangkok | Training in MetaGenomics Analysis & Antibiotic resistance detection

WHAT: 2-Day Technical Certificate Training in MetaGenomics Analysis in 16S rRNA & Antibiotic resistance detection

    WHEN: 20 - 21 April 2020

    WHERE: Bangkok, Thailand

Advancement of technologies like genome sequencing and metagenomics has given the scientists to study the microbes along with their function resulting in microbiome research. Innovation & creativity is an integral part of the BDG Lifesciences and we always launch new programs on the newest topics. We have launched a 2-day Technical Certificate Training in MetaGenomics Analysis in 16S rRNA & Antibiotic resistance detection | Amplicon Sequencing & Nanopore Data Analysis in Bangkok, Thailand in which we will teach about the Metagenomics analysis of 16S rRNA and Nanopore data.

    PRACTICAL APPLICATION
    EXPERIMENT 1-
on 16S rRNA data where sequences were only the rRNA or ribosomal DNA of organisms generated through HTS (high throughput sequencing) reads to identify species in microbial or environmental DNA samples.
AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT- The aim of this experiment is to determine the micro-organisms from which the sequences in our sample are coming from, this is called taxonomic assignation. We try to assign sequences to taxons and then classify or extract the taxonomy in our sample.
    • File Optimization- Loading of data & optimizing it according to our experiment.
    • Quality Control- Check sequencing quality
    • Sequence Alignment- Grouping/Alignment of reads
    • Extraction of Taxonomic Information- Operational Taxonomic Units (OTUs)- Clustering Sequences
    • Visualization- Examine diversity of species/taxa present within a single sample, Comparison of species/taxa diversity between two samples & Taxonomic Diversity- How many species are in a sample? What are the differences in species between samples?

EXPERIMENT 2- on Nanopore MinION sequencer data
AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT- The aim of this experiment is the reconstruction of full plasmid sequences and determining the presence of any antimicrobial resistance genes.
    • Obtaining and preparing data
    • Quality Control- NanoPlot to explore data
    • De-novo Assembly
    • Species and plasmids- Prediction of plasmid sequences and classes
    • Antibiotic Resistance- Scan genome contigs for antimicrobial resistance genes

Participation certificate with workshop material along with tea/coffee and snacks are complimentary

    Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
    by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...

    Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
    by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
