The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany, invites applications for the position of a

    Research Assistant

to support our deep-sequencing facility. Funding for this position is expected to start in 2012 for an initial period of two years.

We are looking for motivated team players with strong communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic environment. The successful applicant will have a good understanding of molecular biology and the ability to perform high quality analyses in a responsible and independent manner. Candidates with prior experience as a lab technician are strongly preferred.

    Qualifications:
    - biotechnical education, biological sciences or any related field
    - good knowledge of molecular biology techniques
    - good oral and written communication skills in English

    Tasks:
    - organize and schedule sequencing projects
    - optimize ChIP-seq and RNA-seq protocols
    - antibody quality control
    - DNA-library preparation
    - operation and maintainance of sequencing machine

Salaries will be based on previous experience according to TVöD guidelines. A childcare facility is directly attached to the institute. Handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment. Candidates should send their applications (cover letter and CV) indicating the reference number 021211 via e-mail to Ms. Weigold at [email protected] or to the Max-Planck-Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics, Personnel Department, Stübeweg 51, 79108 Freiburg. Informal inquiries should be sent directly to Thomas Manke ([email protected]).

Deadline for applications is January 10, 2012.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
