Dear Community!
I am searching for a skillful PhD student for my recently funded project (UAEU-UPAR) on non-canonical peptides in Medicago truncatula. The project is focused on an unusual mode of translation overlooked so far. It is a high-gain/low-risk project because of very strong preliminary data. The funding is for four years, with the first two years dedicated to bioinformatic analyses and the remaining two years for the wet-lab analyses of identified peptides.
The main prerequisite for a candidate is documented ability to master complex computational pipelines independently and to implement their skills in real projects. The ability to code and to use a server is also very important. Two pipelines will constitute the core of the computational component:
1. RNA-Seq
2. MS proteomics
Ideally, the candidate should already be familiar with these analyses.
For the wet-lab component, the expectation will be motivation to learn how to work with plants and familiarity with basic wet-lab procedures (preparation of soil, seeds, and nutrient solutions, sampling of plant tissues, etc.). The project will mainly involve the treatment of plants with synthetic peptides, phenotypic analysis, and preparation of samples for liquid chromatography.
Potential candidates can send their comprehensive CVs to me via my institutional address: [email protected]. In January, they will also need to apply to our PhD program at the Department of Biology, UAEU. The project can commence in Spring or Summer 2026.
