Computational Research Scientist in cancer bio (Weill Cornell Medical College, NYC)

The Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Research Center in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, located in New York City, is looking for a Computational Research Scientist to design and carry out bioinformatics and statistical analyses to investigate biological processes underlying cancer biology.

This position offers a unique opportunity to combine rich clinical and high-throughput sequencing data to investigate cancer biology and quantify the effects of state-of-the-art treatment regimens. We are looking for motivated and curious PhD-level candidates to explore multi-modal datasets to characterize changes on transcriptional, protein, metabolomic, and epigenomic levels in relation to demographic and other medical information.

As a Computational Research Specialist in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, you will actively participate in generating new hypotheses and be responsible for designing and carrying out integrative bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses on data from a variety of next generation sequencing (NGS) experimental platforms, including whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing, RNA-seq, ribosomal profiling, and epigenomics methods, in addition to metabolomics and proteomics datasets.

As a successful candidate for this staff position, you will be intimately familiar with best practices and the current literature in the NGS analysis field, and fluent with commonly used tools (e.g., the Tuxedo suite, samtools, STAR, GATK, and especially R), reference sequence databases (e.g., RefSeq, UCSC, Ensembl, dbSNP), and public data repositories (e.g., cBio Portal, Oncomine). You will be comfortable analyzing both high-throughput sequencing and clinical data, and be familiar with various statistical and machine learning techniques including classification and predictive modeling (e.g., Bayesian classifiers, SVMs, clustering techniques, time-to-event models), as well as functional analysis approaches (e.g., gene expression analysis, network analysis).

You will be proficient in working in a Linux computing environment, and automating tasks using scripting languages such as bash, python, perl, or ruby. A firm understanding of clinical biostatistics is a plus.

To apply for this position, please email your CV in .pdf format along with a cover letter to:

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
    by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
    by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
