How big is the data from one lane of solexa?

    hi everyone:

Recently I use solexa to do studies on CHIP-SEQ. and I download some rawdatas from GEO to practice for I am new to solexa. and the downloaded datas are 150M on average, but yesterday my technician who actually do the solexa experimnet told me that rawdata from one lane is about 1GB!, could you please tell the difference between those two things? thanks in advance

It depends on what level of output you're talking about and whether or not it's compressed.

Quickly looking at one lane of a recent 36bp single end run which generated ~20 million sequences the files sizes are:

    FastQ sequence file 2.8GB

Raw mapped sequence file (export) 3.9GB

Filtered mapped sequence file (sorted) 2.9GB

    Intensities 470MB

    Raw Images 120GB

All of these are uncompressed sizes and many of these files will compress well (probably 60-70% smaller).

      thank you simonandrews
the files which I talk are both fastq-formated uncompressed txt file, I think the downloaded file would be processed in advance

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
        by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
        by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
