Hello, I plan on submitting eight environmental samples for Illumina Hi seq 2000 (2X100 cycles, paired end) to look at viral communities. I've heard that there is a way to estimate how many lanes are enough with regard to the number of samples. Is one lane enough for eight samples in terms of looking at viral communities as virus has small genome size? Thanks.

You can expect to get ~200 million clusters on a HiSeq 2000 lane (provided you have good libraries) (200 mil X 100 x 2 bp total). You should be able to calculate theoretical yield of viral genomes using an average genome size to get ~viral genomes/lane.

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?
Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating...-
