An ode to the world’s greatest FAS

This is a brief personal perspective and reflection on working with one of Illumina’s greatest field application scientist.

Two years ago, I met my FAS in one of Toronto’s top research labs. From the beginning she was a gentle presence with radiating talent and capability.

Watching her solve GA-related mysteries, one could easily come to the conclusion that she must have been born with an innate talent to interpret a GA’s every sigh.
In everything she does, she puts customers first, shows great dedication, commitment, loyalty, and immense personal integrity. She is the type of person one does not meet very often.

Two years on, I have moved on but luckily my FAS has stayed with me.
I wish to thank you, LPK, for sharing your talents, all your hard work, dedication, kindness, and most of all your patience. Your example is a wonderful lesson to me. Please accept my sincere thanks.

    Great post.

Field people are probably the most underappreciated folks in most companies. They catch all the flak from customers, and have to deal with squeezing information out of the R&D of their own companies.

16S/ITS Profiling vs. Shotgun Metagenomics: What Changes in Your Workflow?
      by SEQadmin2

NGS has revolutionized clinical microbiology by offering new ways to identify and surveil pathogens without prior knowledge of the target. One popular approach is 16S rRNA and ITS amplicon sequencing, which targets specific microbial markers. But studies are increasingly incorporating shotgun metagenomics, a technique that sequences all DNA from a sample without targeting specific microbial markers. This approach allows more detailed taxonomic classification, detection...

Multiomic Liquid Biopsy: What DNA/RNA Panels Reveal That DNA Alone Can’t
      by SEQadmin2

Tumors contain complex mixtures of cell populations that evolve in response to treatment and host-specific factors. Tissue biopsies provide only static snapshots of a tumor’s state. But what if we could follow that evolution over time using a minimally invasive technique?

Liquid biopsies can detect tumor-derived material circulating in the bloodstream, providing a way to study treatment response, detect emerging resistance, and discover new biomarkers. Circulating
