  • New Ion Torrent Sequencer?

So I just read an article on AllSeq.com talking about a new Ion Torrent based sequencer thats in the works. Apparently its called the S5 or S5 XL.

I tried looking for it online but couldn't find anything so I decided to ask here. Has anyone heard anything about this? Thanks!

    Image is from here:

Actually relating to a RFID reader: https://fccid.io/2AD9Z-INS1011976??

But yes, basically part of an operations manual for an S5/S5XL sequencer although described as an Ion Torrent S5A sequencer in the image.

Do we still care about Ion Torrent as a platform?

@GW_OK: Are these new (as yet unannounced) sequencers or a variant that use the same chips as proton?

Welp, the pictures in that manual sure look different from a Proton. And the S5 trademark was just granted this past spring. And said manual calls for
Ion 520™, Ion 530™, or Ion 540™ Chip
So I reckon it's all new.

And, given that AllSeq's site is scrubbed now maybe it's still hush hush.

Looks like it's got some sort of Miseq-like reagent system. Cartridges and RFIDs and all that.

You can see the door RFID reader in the door by changing the link above to end in 2554607.

Also, having a further look at the FCC's site for that ID shows there's more info but it's been sequestered until 9/9/15.

This is about 2 weeks prior to the AGBT precision medicine meeting out in Arizona. Coincidence? Maybe they'll unveil it then...

This is an "unannounced" sequencer AFAWK so you must be participating in a test program under an NDA?

Unless this sequencer has been "stealth" released without a formal product announcement.

Based on the (very polite) request we received to take down the info we had shared, I'd say these instruments have not been released yet, stealth or otherwise. But since we weren't given any extra info, I'm just guessing.

The sequencing world is rapidly changing due to declining costs, enhanced accuracies, and the advent of newer, cutting-edge instruments. Equally important to these developments are improvements in sequencing analysis, a process that converts vast amounts of raw data into a comprehensible and meaningful form. This complex task requires expertise and the right analysis tools. In this article, we highlight the progress and innovation in sequencing analysis by reviewing several of the...

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist...
