alternatives to sera-mag bead purification

Hi All,

Is anybody out there using something OTHER THAN the Illumina recommended sera-mag beads for mRNA purification?

The product works fine and all, but it takes so long, and there are many places to mess up.

I am interested in using a QIAGEN spin column or one of the Invitrogen products for direct mRNA isolation... Anybody using these (or another non-bead system) for Illumina mRNA sequencing?

Well, I can now say at least that the QIAGEN Oligotrex mRNA purification kit does not work well- at least when following the protocol...

16% rRNA contamination... this is purifying from total RNA.
