    Any Experience with Otogenetics

We are sending a genomic DNA sample to Otogenetics for human exome sequencing. They will make the library, sequence and do some bioinformatics at a very reasonable intro price. They are also giving us a great price for RNAseq. Does anyone have any experience with them? Good or bad comments are welcome.

    Hi JHU-ChIPmaniac,

Did you end up using Otogenetics for the exome sequencing? What was your experience?

They are very unprofessional. Irresponsive to emails. Sends you back data with no explanation of which samples are which. I got an excel spreadsheet and a bunch of bioanalyzer traces and the samples don't even correlate. Do no go with Otogenetics.

I am also interested in hearing about Otogenetics.
How long does it take to deliver the data back? How was the overall quality and maping?

        Are their any alignment options?

With all of the academic core facilities and expertise available why would anyone waste time with an outside company like Otogenetics?

Customers are free to select the service provider of their choice. All offer different benefits and it depends on your needs: pricing, turn-around time, flexibility, customization, support, etc.

We tried using Otogenics a while back and it was a terrible experience. Sent some RNA-Seq samples in and received the complete wrong data back. Never again!

I recently received chip-seq data from otogenics with no information given about the adaptors used for sequencing is there a way I can get this informatioin?

                    Thanks

Nine Things a Sample Prep Scientist Thinks About Before Sequencing
                      by SEQadmin2

I’m not a sequencing expert. I’m a purification scientist who uses NGS to evaluate workflows my group develops. With this perspective, we think about the sample first and the NGS workflow second. The sequencer is an exceptionally honest reporter, but it can only report on what you give it, so whether you get clean, interpretable data from an NGS workflow is largely determined before you begin.

Here are nine questions we think about, in roughly the order they matter, before...

From Collection to Sequencing: Why Sample Preparation and Preservation Define Sequencing Data
                      by SEQadmin2

Data variability is still an issue in sequencing technologies despite the advances in reproducibility and accuracy of these platforms. But the problem does not originate in the sequencing itself, but in the previous steps, before the sample reaches the sequencer.

The first step is collection, followed by preservation and sample preparation for analysis. Most scientists overlook those steps, but not being careful might just be skewing the experiment’s results.
