  • acknowledging the seqanswers.com forum

    Dear All,
Let me introduce myself as a researcher in biology who uses genomics approaches to solve biological problems and address these questions.

I would like to thank each and everyone on this forum, who has ever posted a question, answered a question, and written/shared scripts/blogs/ papers/knowhows/technologies on this forum. I can proudly say that i have learnt everything i know about genomics, and quite a lot more about bioinformatics, on this forum. In fact, browsing the threads on this forum has been more useful to me than readin a textbook! I have learnt more on this forum than i ever did in my grad school! grad school was fine for imparting the basics, but the actual applications and real worl problems faced by researchers out here are training which no school or college can provide for.

Please accept my sincerest thanks for all your support! I was wondering if we can create a formal citation for this forum to use as acknoledgement in publications.

Not sure about citing an entire forum but looks like there are a few guidelines out there for acknowledging particular posts within a forum:

Purdue Online Writing Lab (see Online Forum or Discussion Board Posting)

    Example:
    Code:
Frook, B. D. (1999, July 23). New inventions in the cyberworld of
toylandia [Msg 25]. Message posted to
        http://groups.earthlink.com/forum/messages/00025.html
APA manual (6th ed.) (see Message posted to a newsgroup, online forum, blog posting, or discussion group.)

    Example:
    Code:
    Johnson, D. F. (2009, April 3). Problems accessing information
        [Online forum comment]. Retrieved from
        http://groups/google.com/group/sci.psyc.hyposis/

There is a plan to get a publication out on SEQanswers which could be cited, but already people do cite it via the website.

ron, in fact we are working on a formal publication of SEQanswer. We need some time.

          Thanks

          ron128,

Thanks for your acknowledgment. I'm participating with Marco's team of forum members working very hard to prepare a peer-reviewed article about the forum and representing it to the larger scientific community globally. We will be very excited when we can finally provide a published article reference, which I hope will be soon. In the meantime, spread the good word!

              Strategies for Sequencing Challenging Samples
              by seqadmin

Despite advancements in sequencing platforms and related sample preparation technologies, certain sample types continue to present significant challenges that can compromise sequencing results. Pedro Echave, Senior Manager of the Global Business Segment at Revvity, explained that the success of a sequencing experiment ultimately depends on the amount and integrity of the nucleic acid template (RNA or DNA) obtained from a sample. “The better the quality of the nucleic acid isolated...
