  • Lag time for camera door opening on FLX+

When I direct my FLX+ to open the camera/flow chamber door the lag time is often ~3 minutes between hitting the hitting the 'open door' button & the door lock disengaging. I understand that the instrument must complete a few tasks (e.g., dissipating static electricity) prior to disengaging the lock. I'm curious if other 454 FLX+ users have observed a similar time lag.
    Thanks in advance,

It does take a while, but I've never timed it. I'd say a minute or two.

Before our instrument was upgraded to FLX+, it was sometimes problematic. I would often hit the button, it would go though the process, but then the door wouldn't unlock. It would sometimes take 2-4 tries before it would open. It's been fine since the upgrade. Now, it usually takes ~1 minute. I usually hit the button while I'm doing something else, then just come back to it later and open it, rather than sit and wait.

Yes, our FLX+ has had similar recalcitrance at times when prompted to open the door.
Although our FLX+ is only~ 2 months old...
          Thank you for your feedback!

Essential Discoveries and Tools in Epitranscriptomics
            by seqadmin

The field of epigenetics has traditionally concentrated more on DNA and how changes like methylation and phosphorylation of histones impact gene expression and regulation. However, our increased understanding of RNA modifications and their importance in cellular processes has led to a rise in epitranscriptomics research. “Epitranscriptomics brings together the concepts of epigenetics and gene expression,” explained Adrien Leger, PhD, Principal Research Scientist on Modified Bases...

            Current Approaches to Protein Sequencing
            by seqadmin

Proteins are often described as the workhorses of the cell, and identifying their sequences is key to understanding their role in biological processes and disease. Currently, the most common technique used to determine protein sequences is mass spectrometry. While still a valuable tool, mass spectrometry faces several limitations and requires a highly experienced scientist familiar with the equipment to operate it. Additionally, other proteomic methods, like affinity assays, are constrained...
