SOLiD PI?

I was wondering if anyone had ever used the SOLiD PI instrument and if they had any comments about its functionality. I'm looking to use it for targeted resequencing of human genomic DNA samples.

Briefly, we plan on analyzing ~200 unique locations throughout the genome, and hope to barcode, then pool, the samples to increase overall throughput. Unfortunately, we will have very low quantities of input DNA, so we'll probably need to do whole genome amplifications prior to library generation and pooling. We'd like to then read the samples on a SOLiD PI.

I was looking for any and all input on the SOLiD PI instrument (not much info out there) and our proposed process overall.

Wasn't it just released? I assume it's similiar to the 3Plus or 4 just lower throughput?

I doubt they changed the chemistry and people do this all the time with the other models.

Automation friendly

Thanks for the comment, some more info....

From what I hear, SOLiD PI (built by Hitachi to work with SOLiD chemistry) is supposedly automation friendly. In other words, the sample input method could be a 96 well plate, or another SBS format plate, and then the flow cells would be loaded in the instrument. Being in the automation field, this would be a huge benefit to fully integrated (raw sample to data) Next Gen Sequencing; no other NGS platform has taken automation into account when they have engineered their instruments.

We're hopefully going to get a peak at a SOLiD PI instrument next week, just wondering if anyone else had actually seen or worked with one of these instruments and could confirm the automation capabilities being touted.

I don't think it has been released yet. Maybe there are some test sites?
The liquid handling system is what has my interest peaked.
